Free Donuts at Krispy Kreme for the Vaccinated - The First of Many?

Literally a year ago, almost to the day, we saw brands start to pivot away from their planned marketing plans and expected messages to programs and messages to support people in the pandemic and lockdown. Brands tossed away their usual advertising and promotions to start giving back to communities. The early movers got a lot of attention and then many brands joined the effort with a sea change of marketing activity.

This week we are seeing another pivot, one that I believe will be the first of many: supporting and rewarding those who get their COVID-19 vaccines. I’m sure there have been a few other brands big and small, but Krispy Kreme is the first one that I’ve seen … by giving away a free donut to anyone who can show a vaccine card. And not just on one day, but every day through the rest of the year. And not just any donut, but the brand’s signature Original Glazed.

Instant news … just like a year ago when brands starting shifting their efforts. More to follow I am sure.

Nostalgia and comfort perhaps at a time when we could use it and perhaps a gesture that shows we are all in it together.
