Liquid Death is the Official Iced Tea of Arizona, Nebraska

Source: Liquid Death

The iced tea wars are nearly as crazy competitive as the cola wars in a crowded market place with the brands fighting it out for attention, shelf space, and sales. As a marketer it’s fun to watch, TTYTT, and here’s an especially fun little ditty.

Liquid Death took a direct aim at leading brand Arizona Tea by marching into small town Arizona, Nebraska and working its way to capture market leadership in this tiny little village. All to make a claim that it’s the official iced tea of said town. Arizon, Nebraska. Then of course the brand spread the word, with a clever use of copy.

The official iced tea of Arizona … Nebraska! So down right competitive!

Gotta love a clever claim and a clever marketing ploy. Getting this competitive is a very conscious marketing strategy and it doesn’t work for every brand. Some say it gives just as much attention to the other brand as it does for yours, which may be the case. If your brand has a superiority claim, then that makes it easier but that’s not generally the case. But if your brand can pull of some humor and cleverness in an authentic way, then it can work. Liquid Death does that this persona so it is consistent with the brand.

Will it work in these here iced tea wars … let’s watch closely!
