The latest in inspiration and representation from Brand Barbie …

To honor her many contributions to popular culture, Brand Barbie just released a new doll in the likeness of famed entertainer, actress, and choreographer Debbie Allen of “Fame” fame.
Note that the Debbie Allen Barbie is wearing an outfit inspired by her role in that exact movie and television show “Fame.”

In “Fame,” Debbie plays a teacher/choreographer to the students and inspires them to reach their full potential. Here’s one of my favorite moments from the movie with Debbie …
The movie and the television show were such cultural forces at the time, and Debbie Allen was right in the center of it. She inspired dreams of the current generation and of the generations to come. She continues to be a central figure on “Grey’s Anatomy” as well. Her resume is deep and long.
When Debbie heard that Barbie was honoring her, she said that it was a “dream come true” and a “moment she never imagined as a girl growing up in Houston.” There simply were no dolls/toys to play with that represented her when she was young. With Barbie, now there is.
Representation is so important.
Debbie also encouraged people to keep dreaming and keep imagining so that more can happen then you can ever imagine.
Right there with you, Debbie.
That’s what I love most about Brand Barbie and that’s why I write about it so often. She’s inspiring. She’s representative of our culture. She shapes our culture. She includes us all, and she brings others in to inspire us even further. Like Debbie Allen.
Congratulations, Debbie. Thank you for all you have given us through the years, “Fame” and all.
What’s your experience? JIM
P.S. - Debbie also just recently got an Oscar too. WooHoo! Yes, Debbie just received an Honorary Oscar at the 16th Annual Governors Awards for all her contributions. Congratulations!
P.P.S. - Remember her name!
