"Assume That I Can" #WorldDownSyndromeDay

March 21st was World Down Syndrome Day, a day to raise awareness and understanding of Down Syndrome. It was started in 2007 and then recognized as a “holiday” by the United Nations in 2012. The 21st day was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome.

An organization called CoorDown is particularly dedicated to this community and this year released a remarkable video to force us all to realize that perhaps we are unknowingly creating a “self-fulfilling prophecy” in as we hold individuals with Down Syndrome back from advancing in their lives.

It’s really compelling and very moving, and instantly changed my perspective. It’s called “Assume That I Can.” Indeed.

Wow, how powerful is that?!? On the 21st of March, on the 21st of every month, and in fact on every single day. Let’s all assume that they can. We can do it!
