"Lush Life" #MusicMonday

I’m in Europe this week, celebrating a milestone birthday. And while the song “Lush Life” has no bearing or meaning for this celebratory trip, I can’t seem to get the one line from the song out of my head.

“A week in Paris will ease the bite out of it.”

Indeed. I’ve got a few milestones happening this year that will reveal themselves as the year progresses, and this line just sums it up so well.

If you are not familiar with the song “Lush Life,” it’s a standard from Billy Strayhorn that so many people have covered. It’s a hard song to sing, that’s for sure. And it’s meaning is so deep. I just love it.

Here’s a list of several of those covers, put into rank order. I of course love the version from Donna Summer from 1982, in her post “Bad Girls” days. The song was a big departure for her on the surface, but those of us who know her know that it’s right in her sweet spot.

Enjoy the week. I certainly will!
