Ray-Ban Stories - Wayfarer Sunglasses with Cameras

I’m mixed on this one TBH. Ray-Ban recently launched smart sunglasses that have cameras in the front of the frame to capture photo and video content. They are called Ray-Ban Stories, presumably because you can post stories with them on your social feeds.

As a person, not sure I get it. Feels invasive to me in that folks could be capturing content of other folks without them even knowing it. I guess that’s true now too, but this feels like next level. Not sure I would be comfortable with them.

As a marketer, I totally get it. Making Ray-Ban a wearable tech device makes total sense. Making Ray-Ban a valuable way to capture and post content to increase your social influence makes total sense. Giving social leaders a reason to buy Ray-Ban makes total sense. Given that every brand wants to be a tech and social brand gives Ray-Ban a leadership advantage here.

“Reviews” are mixed as well … some folks are uncomfortable like me while others applaud the innovation like me too!.

One way or the other, this is elevating the brand and also setting the stage for other sunglass/eyewear tech innovation for sure. Leadership in action and pushing the boundaries.
