Duolingo Opens Up "Restaurants"

Source: Duolingo

As someone who is personally constantly working to get back my fluency in Espanol, I am super impressed personally and professionally with Duolingo’s efforts to open restaurants that encourage people to practice the language they are trying to learn.

Based in Pittsburgh, PA, first the brand partnered with delis across the country to promote/encourage their course in Yiddish. Now the brand is opening a Taqueria in Pittsburgh to promote/encourage Spanish. When you attempt to use the language, you get either free items (like a bagel at the deli) or a discount (at the taqueria).

This is so smart because I personally know that the only way to keep learning a language and to keep any proficiency, you have to practice. But practicing doesn’t come easy and it’s not easy work, so giving your customers options and encouragement is (to my mind) building a more complete brand experience and making the customers’ connection to the brand even more meaningful.

Also makes the brand more competitive against other similar services, which is also the point. Which language service would you choose?

Well done. Hope the tacos are too! What’s your experience? JIM
