Olay #FaceTheSTEMGap

Olay, as in the beauty brand from P&G, just announced its second year in a long term commitment to close the STEM gap amongst women and women of color. The brand released a startling fact that despite recent (successful) efforts, still only 27% of the STEM workforce comes from women.

STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Math.

As part of its ten-year commitment, Olay is partnering with EBONY Media Group, Million Women Mentors, and Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum to launch a series of programs that provide scholarships, educational materials, and mentorships to young women. The brand noted that much of the drop-off among women in this field happens in college because of the lack of mentorship and programs aimed to attract women and women of color in particular.

Well done. Love seeing the commitment to a long term solution, not just a one-year marketing plan aimed to raise awareness. This is the kind of brand activity that will make a difference.

As a father and a marketer, I thank you Olay.
