You're So Vain #Music Monday

“You’re So Vain” dates back to 1972 but somehow it feels all so relevant to me today. Call it my #CurrentMood. Call it #SMH. Call it a #CallingItOut. #AllOfTheAbove.

The lyrics have always kept people wondering who writer and singer Carly Simon was talking about. For me, she’s referencing #AllOfTheAbove as she calls out people who are just simply full of themselves. People who have to have the world their way. People who are completely unconscious of the world around them.

For my book “Out and About Dad,” I developed a playlist of meaningful songs that create a soundtrack during my journey as a father. If I had done a playlist for my newest marketing book “The Conscious Marketer,” this song will be at the top of the list.

“You’re So Vain’ is a great song to blast when you’re feeling frustrated. When you feel like people aren’t listening and don’t get it. This has been a frustrating year, for sure. This song is great relief in that way, at least for me. Ever since 1972. Turn it up …

The lyrics are just so visual, which I love.

“You walked into the party

Like you were walking on to a yacht”

Can’t you just see that?

“I bet you think this song is about you

Don’t you?

Don’t you?”

Enjoy the week. What’s your experience? JIM

PS - Carly Simon has another classic song that I just love too. It’s from the movie “Working Girl,” and it’s all about triumph! Blast this one too …

That opening …

“Let all the dreamers wake the nation!”
