Global Oreo Vault

I’m a big fan of brand Oreo. I write about it a lot mostly because the brand not only stays on top of pop culture but it also becomes a part of it. Sometimes both!

The brand recently built a “Vault” in Norway to store Oreo cookies in case what was then an impending asteroid hits planet earth and causes major destruction. The “Vault” is actually part and parcel to the Global Seed Vault where they store all of the Earth’s seeds in case of, well, absolute devastation.

So the team there built a Vault to hold the Oreo recipe, some cookies, and some powdered milk (just needs snow to make it drinkable).

You can watch a bit about it here:

“It’s a pretty good vault.” Built in just 30 days. And these folks have a pretty good sense of humor.

What strikes me is that there are not many brands with the kind of cultural clout that could pull something like this off … with a smile but also a nod.

What’s your experience? JIM
