Toys 'R Us Came Back!

Not sure how I missed this one over the holiday season because I’m a big fan. Evidently Toys ‘R Us (as in what was the last remaining free standing toy store) came back after closing all of its stores and liquidating all of its inventory. That’s right … two stores opened up right before the holidays. One in the company’s hometown of Paramus, NJ and one near Houston, TX.

While I’m not personally in toy mode these days, it does make this dad happy to see the return of a childhood icon. And as a marketer, I’ve long thought of Toys ‘R Us as the expert in the field…with a retail experience that should be top of the tops. Perhaps they lost their way and they are getting it back on track. It’s nice to have an expert in the field!

The newly revised parent company, TruKids, is partnering up with some strong allies to make it happen in e-commerce (Target) and data analytics which is quite smart. They plan to get it right the first time on their return back!

With two stores now open and another twenty stores planned for this year, it’s nice to see a dedicated toy store back in the game.

Thank you and good luck! What’s your experience? JIM
