Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2019

Another oh wow!

Just like the last few years, this year’s holiday shopping season is becoming one for the record books…starting with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which BTW have completely blurred into each other and have extended way beyond one day a piece.

Black Friday, the day after American Thanksgiving: 2019 set a new sales record for the biggest online sales day ever for a Black Friday. Yes, online sales not brick and mortar physical sales. It was also the second largest online sales day of all time, beaten only by last year’s Cyber Monday. And perhaps most interesting is the fact that 65% of those online sales were completed on a mobile device. I was one of them.

This year we didn’t hear about the rush to retail outlets, nor the fights at the doors and at the displays. But instead we heard of of clicks on mobile. Many of them clicks on social mobile.

Cyber Monday, the Monday after Black Friday: The results are still rolling in but estimates were clocking a sales rate of $11miilion a minute late Monday night as buyers were catching last minute deals. Holy cow! And the day was set to break its own record for the biggest online sales day ever, a record that Cyber Monday has now broken year over year over year. Over year.

Let’s face it, as a society we now buy online. Do we need any more evidence? Oh yes, all of the empty store locations is another clue.

Staggering. And of course now we are seeing those Cyber Monday sales extend into the rest of the week and quite likely the rest of the month as well.

‘Tis the season. Perhaps just the start of it but wow what a start!
