“Jam Busting” in Beijing, China

There’s an innovative new service in Beijing, China that helps people deal with traffic stress and delays … Jam Busting … and it’s a pretty simple concept.

If you are stuck in traffic, you dial up the service and two people speed along to you in a motorbike. One person takes over the wheels of your car and continues on in traffic, the other person takes you on the motorbike navigating through the traffic (as a motorbike does) and takes you quickly to your destination. Presumably, once you’re done at your destination, your car awaits for you there.

Wow. Simple.

All for the USD equivalent of $60. Not bad. Actually, pretty cheap when you figure in the lost time, stress, and anxiety of sitting in traffic and being late for what might be a very important meeting, appointment, etc.

Why hasn’t someone thought of this before?

I couldn’t find a “branded” service per se in China, but that might be my sleuthing skills. I’m betting it’ll come to other cities and it’ll be branded for sure, with eventually lots of competition. Good product extension for one of the current ride or bike share brands? Hmmm. Perhaps it’s already on the horizon, maybe just stuck in traffic?!? I’m sure there are some regulatory hurdles to navigate, city by city and country by country, but a clever brand will get there.

Good idea in other places? What’s your experience? JIM
