“Beauty, Not Luxury, Is What I Value” - Tony Duquette #FeelingFriday

In my soul, I am a creative person. While my title at work is not creative in nature, I am naturally creative in how I approach work. My creative outlook spans not only my work, but my social interests, my hobbies, my fashion, my entertainment, and my home as well. I look for inspiration in all of the above.

Interior design is one of my most passionate creative interests, and as a result our home is filled with interesting creative pursuits through the years of our family’s life together … as well as a collection of books from interior designers one of which is the iconic Tony Duquette. If you look at his “look” and you look at our home, you’ll see where just some of our inspiration comes from. “More is More,” is the title of just one of his many books and the genesis of one of his many styles. And ours.

Tony Duquette has a famous quote that I find so inspiring … “Beauty, Not Luxury, Is What I Value.”

For me that means the beauty of artfully putting together the elements of home into a unique masterpiece like curated artwork that is personally your own. Something you think is beautiful, even if you alone think it’s beautiful. Doesn’t mean it’s luxurious or expensive, but it’s just personally beautiful. Beautifully done, all yours.

Not luxury, but beauty.

I even think about my work that way too … I want it to be beautiful. Not luxurious, but beautifully done. Beautiful craftwork like none other, no matter the category or target audience or marketing program.

Every presentation. Beautifully ideated and executed. Just like our home. With a sense of pride each and every time.

“Beauty, Not Luxury, Is What I Value.”

I value the beauty in our friends and family as well. We are surrounded by beautiful people, from the inside. We value them with all our heart, especially those that have come with us through the ages and stages of life. Friends in and out of work, in and out of the states we’ve lived in.

The states and the States!

Thank you, Tony, for that inspiration across so many facets of life!

What’s your experience? JIM
