Anna Wintour x Madonna New Promo Video #MusicMonday
Cultural stacking at its finest …

"The Devil Wears Prada 2" stayed #1 at the box office for its second weekend, as I and many others predicted. Not too hard to call given the intense marketing and word of mouth. The box office total is now at $433million worldwide, and growing.
The constant stream of quotes has certainly helped to keep the movie top of mind. Like this one from the character Nigel.
"Well, look what TJ Maxx dragged in."
Gold.
The marketing has been so layered and smart, and continuous. With lots of cross over.
This past week we saw some cross over in action. Madonna and Anna Wintour dropped a promo video together, after both of them have been featured in the film's marketing ecosystem. Anna was already in a promo video with Meryl Streep. Madonna's song "Vogue" is perfectly set in the movie trailer. Now together they're poking fun at the iconic track to tease Madonna's upcoming new album release. The promo video is running in theaters right before the movie starts.
Take a look …
This is cultural stacking at its finest.
When fashion, music, and pop culture converge, everyone wins. Madonna's album gets more pre-release buzz. Anna Wintour reminds us she's still the most powerful person in fashion. And while it’s not directly tied to the movie, it certainly is associated with it and helps keep it at #1.
The cross promotion is simply fabulous.
Now we just need to see something with Lady Gaga who wrote three songs for the film and Madonna. Pleeeease.
