“Superman” Movie - A Look at the Brand Collaborations

Along with a Summer blockbuster movie comes some super blockbuster collaborations …

The Summer blockbuster movie “Superman” is upon us to great box office success and so too are the many brand collaborations. This is a proven formula for both the brands and the movie franchises that almost guarantees success at the box office and at retail, especially with a known entity from DC Studios like “Superman.”

We’ve seen some great collaboration combinations of late from other franchises like “Barbie,” so the benchmark is high. Let’s see how these partnerships stack up.

Old Spice. This one is a bit of a surprise to me. Nice match for sure, but I’m not sure I’ve seen this category enter the movie collab space in awhile. Love the opening scene, tied right to the product benefit!

Dairy Queen. No stranger to collaborations, but likely this boost gives the brand a connection back into cultural relevance for Summer visits. Good timing.

Chuck E. Cheese. As this brand continues its own refresh, select locations feature special “Superman” play areas to tie into the frenzy of the movie for kids. Good idea for parents too.

Lucky Brand. Perhaps the best of them all is the limited-edition clothing line that dresses you like the super hero you are too.

A fun look and a fun look at the range of collaborations, right?!?

I have my own personal connection to the original “Superman” Superman so I for one am thrilled to see the box office success of this latest installment that keeps the legacy alive along with the messaging that comes with it. Plus the cameo from Christopher Reeve’s son is just amazing.

What’s your experience? JIM

P.S.: Here’s the trailer from the original “Superman” movie starring Christopher Reeve …

P.P.S.: Christopher Reeve is a graduate of my alma mater, Cornell University so I have that connection too! Go Big Red. Multiple legacies here for me personally!!
