Is this the most played movie launch ever?

The world can breathe a collective sigh of relief. Exhale.
"The Devil Wears Prada 2" hit #1 at the box office this weekend, bringing in over $233million worldwide. In the U.S. over 75% of sales came from women.
No coincidence that the Met Gala is tonight in Manhattan. The movie is all about fashion and it's largely set in Manhattan. The timing was deliberate, but of course. Haven’t I always said that there are no coincidences in marketing?
After the global premiere at Lincoln Center, could this get any bigger?
Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway were already legends and if it’s even possible this movie just expanded them even further. Meryl proved that star power transcends age at 76 and Anne proved that iconic roles have staying power across two decades. Lady Gaga showed us what she can do, over and over again. She touches a project and blows it up while pushing creative boundaries that she already set.
How does she do that?!?
She's in the film and she wrote three songs for the soundtrack. In perfect sequence, she released one of the songs this week. It’s called "Runway," named after the fictional magazine in the movie.
The hook is classic Gaga: "I can turn the dance floor into a runway."
Infectious.
She partnered with Doechii, an up-and-coming rapper from Florida. Gaga's song now lifts a new voice into the industry because, well, that's what she does.
So here’s my prediction … most movies see a massive drop off in weekend two sales but I don’t think this one will. This song and music video will help keep it propped up.
The cultural moment behind the film is just beginning. The Met Gala tonight will feed the conversation. Everyone is posting their favorite scenes on social, and quoting their favorite lines. We have not even gotten to the streaming yet.
“Groundbreaking.”
I'm predicting weekend two goes even bigger than weekend one. I hope these women get that milestone for themselves.
“Gird your loins.” My apologies.
What's your experience? JIM

P.P.P.P.S. - That video is the last piece of work from Clarence Clemons of the E Street Band (with Bruce Springsteen), before he died. A masterclass in the saxophone. I actually met Clarence when we hired him to perform when I was working on Clean & Clear at Johnson & Johnson. He was a sweetheart. Here’s his big hit with Jackson Browne, the one he sang for us but as a solo …
